Our Approach

Our mission is to transform workplace culture, but how do we do it?

At Ascent, we use a strengths-based approach made up of these three pillars…

Pillar 1: Managing Stress & Illness

We support you to coproduce policies around areas such as managing absence, presenteeism and stress prevention with your people so that policies are meaningful, caring and supportive.

Support is integrated within a holistic wellbeing strategy.

Pillar 2: Preventing harm

We will help your organisation develop effective staff engagement strategies, building on existing systems so that there are safe spaces where staff feel able to speak out about psychological risk without fear of repercussions.

We use frameworks such as the HSE Management Standards and ISO45001 & ISO45003 to help prevent poor mental health.

Pillar 3: Helping people flourish

Our approach to bring out the best in people is to use Positive Psychology and strengths

We are accredited Strengthscope practitioners and help organisations to support their leaders and teams to perform well and feel more motivated at work.

Coproduction & Engagement

We use Appreciative Inquiry as a method of coproduction and look at the strengths and challenges in an organisation as part of a four step approach: Discover, Dream, Design & Deliver.

Appreciative Inquiry:

  • Focuses on the "best of what is"

  • To realise the ideal of "what might be"

  • With the consent of "what should be"

  • For the reality of "what can be"

  • We will start by researching the main issues that you want to address whether that be building positive environments, developing people’s strengths, management training, or a problem area such as absenteeism or poor performance.

Identifying key staff members to work with us, we will access records such as HR data and align mental health related records such as absenteeism with key performance drivers and targets for the organisation.

We will also talk to staff about their experiences.

  • With key staff including operational staff, leaders and HR teams we will facilitate exploring what good and excellent look like.

How would the dream team and departments operate?

How do they perform, how do they feel about work, how motivated are they and what support would be in place to make that happen?

  • With key staff and teams, we will facilitate the design of a new mental health and wellbeing strategy for the organisation as well as related policies and procedures.

We will integrate changes into wider systems of performance, health and safety, communications, employee engagement, HR and management and leadership programmes.

  • We will deliver or support your teams to deliver the aspects of the new strategy.

Our specialist areas of training are HR (legislation, management/leadership, recruitment, succession planning), mental health awareness, strengths development and profiling and training, coaching and facilitation.
